ptna_20170427top.jpgPTNA will organize a symposium on July 9th, for those who would like to apply for music colleges next year or in the future. 7 music colleges in Tokyo and the Metropolitan area will participate in the event (Ueno Gakuen University / Kunitachi College of Music / Showa University of Music / Seitoku University / Senzoku Gakuen College of Music / Tokyo College of Music / Toho Music College). In the morning session, each participant will be able to speak to representatives of those colleges.

In the afternoon session, Keiichi Kubota, an author and the vice president of Kunitachi College of Music, will give the key note speech regarding the meaning of learning music and the meaning of becoming professional musicians. Kubota has recently published a book about the music education for the future, in which he raised several issues to be considered now. "Music has to be learned throughout one's life. Music also needs to be connected to society. I hope this would be an opportunity for future music college students to consider the relationship between 'music and yourself'".

In the symposium, students and alumni of 7 music colleges will talk about their studies and careers, and Takao Ouchi, an author and career advisor at Musashino Academia Musicae, will join the discussion as a moderator. Ouchi has published a book in 2015, in which he illustrated that students learn not only instrumental performance skills, but also acquire social competence in music colleges.
Ouchi addresses, "It is often said that graduating from music colleges are disadvantageous in finding employment, but is it true? Students learn music intensively and diligently at music colleges. As I wrote in my book, they obtain communication skills, patience, manners, precision, etc. through learning music. Those are what the society needs, and nowadays companies begin to give a high evaluation to them. Intensive learning at music colleges leads to anywhere. It is worth studying music, which could be equivalent to learning economics or law".
