ptna_170127top.jpgPTNA added the Tuner Member to its membership service last year. On January 19th, the 1st meeting with tuner members was held at the PTNA Tokyo headquarter. 11 new members participated in to discuss the future prospect of piano education, industry, and their new projects.

Here are some of the voices at the meeting;
- Japan Piano Technicians Association has 11 branches across Japan, which organizes study sessions exclusively for its members.  I, as a tuner, would like to extend it for piano teachers, in which they can learn the basic knowledge of the tuning.

-I sometimes speak with children studying piano, and talk about the difference between acoustic and electronic pianos. I also encourage them to try tuning, which enhances their understanding and interest toward instruments. I think it would be nice to have environments that allow children, including competition participants, to try on and get interested in how the interior of instruments are designed, and how to tune them.

-How about rent a bus and take piano teachers / students to piano factories or showrooms? I sometimes invite guests and teachers to my atelier and explain about instruments and tuning.

- It would be helpful if we could play a role as "piano clinics" or "piano advisors", by setting a booth at competition venues, and answer questions or give advices to piano teachers, students, and their parents.

-How about organizing a tour to observe tuning or rehearsals at concerts?

PTNA will launch the piano tuner search service from April 7th. It will be an information service that encourages tuners to be selected by quality, not price, by converting the individual profile data into the point system (whether they have tuner's certificate, or belong to Japan Piano Technicians Association, how many times they engage in tuning at PTNA events, or give lectures at seminars, etc.), and display them according to the point. PTNA has already activated the similar system on the "piano studio search service". In order to keep the neutrality and fairness, users themselves see the list and choose who they want to learn with, and PTNA makes contact with teachers on behalf of them.
