ptna_20161202top.jpgPTNA announces a part of the repertoires and regulations of the 41st PTNA Piano Competition 2017; Grade Superior, Grade G, Grandmuse G, Grandmuse division, Duo with two pianos, and Concerto with two pianos. Here are several changes from the last year.

In the Grade Superior, those who will choose a Japanese composition, "Fantasy - A Path of A Wonderer" (composed by Shinya Muramoto, published from Edition Kawai), will be evaluated and chosen for the "New Composition Performance Prize", a value of 30,000 yen.

Some of the grades and divisions for 10s and 20s are frequently revised in the past few years. Grade G is for those under 22, and GrandeMuse G grade is for those 23 and above (The latter was established in 2015). Those two grades are similar in terms of free program setting, but partly different in required pieces and time length. In the 1st round, both grades are required to play one Chopin's etude, but the time length are a bit different; 10-15min for Grade G, 7-13 min for GrandMuse G. In the 2nd round, Grade G should include two different styles, and cannot repeat the 1st round program, whereas GrandMuse G can repeat a part the program, but is required to include one prelude and fugue from Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier vol. I, II. And in the final round, Grade G is free program of 25-35 min including the same Chopin's etude performed in the 1st round. On the other hand, GrandMuse G will play one (or more) movement from classical sonata (Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven), and one etude (Chopin, Liszt, Debussy, Scriabin, Rachmaninov, Bartok, Stravinsky, Szymanowski, Prokofiev, Ligeti) within the same time length.

J category (15-18) and Y category (19-22) of the GrandMuse division will increase the number of finalists from 9 to 15, in order to provide more opportunities for amateurs.
