R.I.P. Prof.Yasuko Nakayama, the former vice president of PTNA

Yasuko Nakayama, the former vice president of PTNA and professor emeritus of Tokyo University of fine arts and music, passed away on January 16th at the age of 93. 

Prof.Nakayama was born in 1921 and studied in Tokyo Music School (present Tokyo University of fine arts and music), followed by her continuous study in Germany with Leonid Kreutzer and Walter Gieseking, particularly in solo and Deutsche Lied. As a professor of her Alma mater, she taught a number of outstanding pianists in Japan.

She had served as the vice president of PTNA for 22 years since 1985, with a great dedication to the development of the organization. The book "The Basics of Piano Playing" (Ongaku-no Tomo), a collection of her experiences and insights into the piano education, was published with cooperation of her former students (Satoru Sunahara, Reiko Kanai, etc) and PTNA. She received "Social Education Achievement Award" (Ministry of Education) in 2004 and "The Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Rosette" in 2005.
