PTNA Piano Competition has a long tradition to adopt and promote Japanese compositions, which was started at commission-basis and then became public audition since 1987. The following 7 new pieces by Japanese composers are adopted as required repertoires of PTNA Piano Competition 2011. The New Composition Selection Committee, chaired by Prof.Hideo ARASHINO, has been responsible for selecting new required repertoires for PTNA Piano Competition through paper screening and live audition. The latest audition was held on April 14th, where commmittee members listened to the 27 works which passed the paper screening out of 139 applied works. As a result, 10 pieces was chosen and will be re-examined at the Required Repertoire Selection Committee in July, and officially announced next March. (8 pianists played at the live audition; Asuka IINO, Yuko UENO, Miku OOMINE, Akiko OKAMOTO, Ko KOSHIMURA, Sanae TAKAGI, Mihoko & Rieko MORINAGA)

After observing the live audition last month, a spokesman told that those works satisfied the artistic pursuit as well as the required elements of the competition in a good balance.

The works of Miho ABE, a PTNA authorized member, has been chosen three times; "Midnight Clock" (2008, grade A2), "Card Magic" (2009, grade C), "Two Moons" (2010, grade E). As a piano teacher, she regularly tried composition/arrangement by herself to provide students pieces with suitable techniques and expression training. Her pedagogical idea and composition skills are further matched to the education materials for introductory level. Thus a new accompaniment scores was published in order to encourage piano teachers to play beautiful harmonies together with little pupils. Recently she established a Station named "'Playing with Sounds" in her town, and has just given a charity concert in Tokyo for the earthquake victims.

Chihiro TODOROKI is the composer of "Otsuki sama no hanashi" (A Story of Moon) which was chosen as one of the required repertoires of grade A1 in 2010, and was played by 1,754 young pianists out of 5,367 participants. She applied 5 works in 2009, and after the anonymous adjudication, 3 were recommended to the future repertoires of PTNA Piano Competition and 2 were already adopted at PTNA Piano STEP. Her arrangements also receive good reputation, and a series of arrangement scores for children's music has just been published from Zen-On.
