What can be done for competition- music analysis or practical training, or both?

PTNA Piano Competition is not only discovering young talents but also aims at encouraging learning process of music in depth from eary stage.

This is why our competition puts focus on the selection of required repertoire. Every year, the selection committee (chair: Mitsuyo Esaki, photo) chooses pieces for all grades and divisions - 9 grade for solo, 4 grades for duo, and grandmuse division (amateur). Hundreds of nominated pieces of four periods / styles - Baroque, Classical, Roman and Modern - are scrutinized for several months by 24 committee members to be well fitted for each level, from pre-school kids to college students, etc.

After the official announcement of required repertoire on March 1st, the guidance sessions and open lessons are held across Japan, where a number of teachers take part in. Especially, professional advices for practical performance are well appreciated.

From two years ago, "Music book for Analyse" has been published from Musse, the on-demand publishing service, which helps teachers and students to have interpretations with better theoretical understanding. Thanks to the cooperation of active composers in Japan, in-depth analysis on required pieces are realized, mainly for grade A1 (under 8) to D (under 14) and duo.
