On May 5th, PTNA held an event called "The Concerto Day, Special Seminar, Concerts, and STEP" at Ueno Gakuen University, having Prof.Akira Wakabayashi (pianist) as the special lecturer (see the previous article).  In the 1st session, Wakabayashi gave lectures to two young pianists. One of them, Sakura Watanabe ( the prize of excellence at the grade G),  played Chopin piano concerto No.1 and learnt how important it is deliver her musical idea to conductor and musicians in the orchestra, and therefore tried to pay attention to the pulse and play as if she was having dialogue with them.

In the 2nd session, three prize winners of 2015 PTNA Piano Competition gave performances with an orchestra conducted by Yoichiro Maeda. Here is the program.

Sayako Shinonaga (the Grand Prize winner) : Schumann Piano Concerto op.54
Shion Ohta (Gold prize at the concerto for 2 pianos division, section A ) : Prokofiev Piano Concerto No.2 op.16
Hayato Sumino (Gold prize at the concerto for 2 pianos division, section B) : Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No.2  op.18

In the process of study, Shinonaga read the orchestral score and imagined how each instrument produce sounds and how could piano correspond to them in order to bring ideal harmonization. She felt joy and excitement to make music together with orchestra which was such a different experience from solo performance.
